2000 Guineas Contenders 2012 - Camelot

When it comes to the 2000 Guineas, there always seems to be a talking horse in the build up to the race and in 2012 that honour has been given to Camelot. Some years that talk proves to be justified with Frankel the best example of that just 12 months ago while in other years the hype fails to live up to the reality. We all remember St Nicholas Abbey who flopped in the Guineas as the hot favourite a couple of years back and it will be fascinating to see how Camelot fares on the Rowley Mile in 2012.

Latest Camelot 2000 Guineas Win Odds

Camelot shot straight to the head of the 2000 Guineas Betting at the back end of last season when he hacked up in great style to win the Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster. The Aidan O'Brien trained horse showed plenty of class as he won as he liked that day and he looked to have all the potential in the world ahead of a big classic season. There is no doubt he is a top class horse but it is well worth noting that no Racing Post Trophy winner has not gone onto win the 2000 Guineas since 1971 which is a remarkable stat.

It's clear that everyone at Ballydoyle thinks highly of Camelot and if he has improved over the winter we could be set for something special come the 5th May on the Rowley Mile. On paper he looks the worthy favourite but that stat surrounding Racing Post Trophy winners looms large and there is the chance he is more of a Derby horse than a Guineas one.
